Book Now for the Junior Presentation Evening 2010 |
September 3, 2010
|
|
Hi Everyone
As promised please click here to find the booking form for the 2010 Junior Presentation Evening.
This a great opportunity for team mates and parents to get together before we all go our separate ways for the winter. 135 players and parents enjoyed a great evening at Winchester Rugby Club last year and we expect a similar number for this year's event which will be held at Easton's brand new Village Hall. Having raised the bar with last year's presentation evening we reckon we've gone one better this year - we are very lucky to be working with Easton's 'Creative Catering Company' who will be providing the food - Kaye and her team have catered for 'The British Comedy Awards' for the last two years and will be providing delicious home cooked curries for the adults and sausage and chips for the children.
Our presentation evening is all about celebrating the efforts of all our players - some will receive individual awards but every player present will be awarded with a medal in recognition of their contribution to age group cricket at Easton this summer; in other words no-one goes home empty handed.
In order to attend our Junior Presentation Evening it will be necessary for you to complete the attached booking form indicating your food requirements; please return it to me together with your payment by 20th September at the latest - Kaye and her team need to know how many they will be catering for by then.
We hope you will be able to come and enjoy what has become an important evening in our cricket calendar - I very much look forward to hearing from you soon.
With kind regards
Damon Barker

Junior Presentation Evening |
September 2, 2010
|
|
Damon Barker, our Junior Organiser, announced that the annual Junior Presentation Evening will take place on Saturday 25th September at the new Easton Village Hall.
This has become an important and popular event in recent years - last year 135 people attended the 2009 Awards at Winchester Rugby Club.
Age group managers will soon be in touch with Junior players to canvas opinion on a new award we would like to present this year. We thought it would be a good idea if a "Players' Player" award could be presented - as players this is your opportunity to vote for the individual who you think has made the most difference to your team - you may want to vote for the player you admire the most, the player who has impressed you with his/her enthusiasm or the player who is an unsung hero in your team. This is an opportunity for you to have your say so please do participate when your age group manager asks for your opinion.
Further information regarding how to book tickets for this showpiece event will follow shortly - for now, please make a note in your diary.

Brave Alex steers 9s through gale to beat Sparsholt |
July 19, 2010
|
|
In a well organised and controlled victory, Easton U9s beat Sparsholt in their last match of the season on Sunday by 31 runs.
Easton won the toss and asked Sparsholt to bat. All the Easton bowlers struggled with the strong cross wind, as evidenced by the few wickets taken.
But the Sparsholt batsmen also struggled and few runs were scored off the bat – those that were often went to the boundary because of the fast outfield and strong wind.
Easton succeded in taking 3 Sparsholt wickets, two caught by Ben (one off his own bowling) and a bowled wicket by Jamie. Sparsholt set a target of 286 which appeared a good score to have to chase.
Easton opened their batting steadily and without losing any wickets. Charlie freemantle and Will putting on 36 runs with some good running between the wickets.
Then Jamie and Ben continued the good work – scoring another 23 runs without loss against some fast and difficult bowling – a lot of it going down the leg side! Spencer and Archie continued in this theme, adding another 24 runs and taking the team total up to the Sparsholt total – Spencer hitting some good fours to keep the score board rolling along.
Finally Alex and Isaac came to the crease needing to score only a few more runs but to lose no more wickets. Alex took to the Sparsholt bowlers with relish, scoring an excellent 18 runs and both boys ran well between the wickets, taking the Easton total to 317, well past Sparsholt.
Congratulations to all the boys – to chase 286 with such ease was a joy to watch and they kept their heads and all contributed to the team effort during the run chase. The man of the match was awarded to Alex Cowling for his excellent batting in the last pair – notwithstanding being hit on the shoulder by a beamer!
See you all for the last training session of the Summer on Tuesday. |

William and Tommy lead U11s to final thrilling win |
July 18, 2010
|
|
Easton U11s finished the 2010 season on a high on Sunday at home with a hard-fought, thrilling victory over a well-matched Otterbourne side.
The hosts won in the end by 16 runs after posting 129 for 4 off 20, but up until the last two or three overs the match could have gone either way.
Skippering the side adeptly for the second time Tommy won the toss and elected to bat but Easton were shocked to lose the season’s leading batter Paolo in the first over to the quickie Zack.
Henry and William settled the nerves and started to build the innings before Zack cleverly brought himself back on and bowled Henry after a bright 17.
This brought Tommy to the crease and together the batters took Easton on relentlessly but judiciously. In the end Tommy first and then William, both had to retire after excellent unbeaten scores of 30 each.
Gabriel, Jacob, Cameron and Doug saw out the final overs running everything they could to bring the total up to 129 for 4 off 20 overs.
This gave Easton something to defend but the task would not be easy without leading bowlers Jim, Arthur, Ethan and Kyle, who were all missing the match.
However, the Easton bowlers stepped up to the plate lead by Paolo, Henry, William, Tommy and Doug and managed to keep a lid on the Otterbourne score.
This was done mainly through taking wickets at crucial times and two excellent catches from Henry and Tommy to dismiss threatening batters just as they were getting going.
In the end Tommy took three wickets, Doug two, and William and Paolo one each but the economy of Henry, Jacob and Gabriel provided excellent support.
Easton’s fielding – impressively and maturely orchestrated by Tommy – was excellent with special mention due to Sam, Stan and Jacob in the outfield and to Doug and Cameron behind the stumps.
My thanks to Tansy for her brilliant hands with the scorecard and to Zillah and Nick and Nicky for providing a lovely tea. |

Combined U13/U15 Match/Social At Training - 19.7.10 |
July 14, 2010
|
|
A reminder that next Monday is the last U13/U15 training session of the season. Since a large number of you have been toiling away since the first week in January and the end of the school term is looming for most, Trevor and I thought it best if our last session has an 'end of season' feel about it as well. There has been much more integration between the U13s and U15s this year so we thought it would be a good idea to have a:
Mixed U13/U13 Match
Artificial Surface
Monday 19th July
6:00 Start
Please be at the ground for 5:45
The teams will be equally matched and the aim will be to give every player the opportunity to bat and bowl; the match will also be closely managed to ensure that players of similar ability compete against each other. We would especially like parents to attend as well - for a large number of you this will be the last opportunity to see your offspring in action this season and with the new facilities available to us Trevor and I are keen to make this a bit of a social for all concerned. Bring some wine, beer or whatever you fancy; nibbles too would go down a treat. If everybody brings something we could have quite a feast at the interval!
We very much hope you will all be able to come

Easton U13s Finish Season on a High |
July 13, 2010
|
|
Easton U13s finished the 2010 season on a high as they beat Hedge End under a scorching sun at Cockets Mead last Sunday. For the second week running Easton seemed intent on grasping defeat from the jaws of victory – well almost. Having dominated from the start, Easton wavered in the middle overs as Hedge End fought back in their bid to sneak a win. As has become their trademark this season though, the team’s imdomitable spirit came to the fore to snuff out Hedge End’s hopes as they came up short by 9 runs in their bid to overhall Eastons first innings score of 164-5.
In parched conditions Easton were put in to bat and got off to a flyer as Dean Griffin and Alex Barker settled in dispatching bad balls with élan and taking advantage of some inaccurate Hedge End bowling early on. With the score at 33 after 3 overs, Dean fell to a controversial run out having scored 10. Calum Rigden came to the crease and between them he and Alex added 71 valuable runs for the second wicket. Calum fell for 27 edging one to keeper Froome off the bowling of Cave. Ben Smith batted brightly for his 7 and shortly afterwards Alex retired having reached 30. Angus Fox replicated his school form and blasted 13 in no time; George Leigh was typically positive for his 6 until he edged to the capable Froome off the bowling of Lodwidge. Sam Maunder and Gabriel Shea saw out the innings for Easton as the team posted 164 off 25 overs.
After the break Hedge End wasted no time getting after Easton’s total. Easton made the breakthrough as Stewart-Hill was run out for 5 with the score on 28 after 4 overs. The impressive Hill accumulated runs steadily until bowled by Griffin for 27. Dean clean bowled Franks off the next ball and very nearly had Tavender out off the 3rd. Ben Smith’s accuracy was rewarded with the wicket of Darney and by now Hedge End were rocking at 61/4 off 8 overs. Griffin bagged his third wicket as Gabriel Shea took an excellent catch to dismiss Lodwidge for 5. Hedge End buckled down and frustrated Easton as Tavender led a charmed life surviving two vociferous appeals by the home team as he and Froome added 29 to take them to 105 until Sam Maunder took an excellent catch to dismiss the Hedge End keeper off the bowling of Leigh. Daniel Phillips got in on the action for Easton as during his spell he first clean bowled the obdurate Tavender for 16, had Dan Ayling out for a duck and also saw the back of Jones for 1 as a result of a terrific stumping by Sam Maunder which typified his growing confidence behind the sticks. Joseph O’Connell-Danes and Jonty Sharpe also bowled very well albeit for little reward. With Hedge End now 138-9 off 18 overs and needing 27 to win Easton were confident of mopping things up without too much trouble. Hedge End had other ideas though as Luke Ayling and Ravenscroft knocked the runs off to edge closer to the winning post. Panic set it to some extent and the Easton bowlers tried a little too hard to force an end to proceedings – in the end the irrepressible Griffin struck to take the all important 10th wicket (and his 4th) to leave Hedge End in despair and Easton elated as they capped off an excellent season with a win.
This was the result Easton deserved for their efforts. In a match notable for the friendliness between the two teams every Easton player made a telling contribution and all can feel proud of the part they played in another thriller.

Fair Oak succumb to Spencer's scorchers |
July 12, 2010
|
|
Easton U9s secured a solid victory against Fair Oak on Sunday – having lost to them by 6 runs early in the season.
Easton won the toss and put Fair Oak in to bat. Solid bowling by Charlie Freemantle and Will restricted the first batting pair to the odd run and a few extras. Jamie and Charlie Blaxland then came on and again kept the runs well under control – Charlie getting the first breakthrough with a great running catch by Ben off his last ball.
Spencer and Jack then came in to bowl and destroyed the middle of Fair Oak's innings – collecting 4 wickets at the cost of 13 runs (net -7) between the two of them. Spencer excelled with 4 wickets for 2 runs in a great spell, where more balls were going to hit the stumps than miss. Fair Oak simply could not cope with this accuracy.
Archie and Ben then came on against Fair Oak’s best two batsmen and – although they conceded 25 runs they still managed to take 3 more wickerts - keeping the Fair Oak total down to 247 runs.
Easton started well with Charlie Freemantle and Will collecting 17 runs for the loss of no wickets. Jamie and Ben then continued the theme scoring 38 runs - but lost 2 wickets in their last over. Jamie top scored once again with an impressive 21.
Jack and Charlie Blaxland played cautiously and took few risks, as the Easton score was now just ahead of the Fair Oak total. Finally, Spencer and Archie batted positively but without risk and scored 28 runs for the loss of only 1 wicket – taking the game comfortably to an Easton victory.
Well done to all the Easton players – we bowled and fielded very well restricting Fair Oak to a sensible score – and then batted calmly and positively to score the runs and complete the victory – a thoroughly professional performance!! |

Ethan hat-trick halts plucky Wherwell |
July 11, 2010
|
|
Easton U11s bounced back from a mid-week Plate competition defeat to beat Wherwell away by 129 runs on Sunday.
The visitors bowled accurately from start to finish restricting Wherwell to 226 for 10 off 20 overs.
Stand out bowler, not for the first time, was Ethan who picked up a remarkable hat-trick in his second over to finish with figures of 2 overs, 2 maidens, 4 wickets for no runs. The most impressive thing was that all hat-trick balls were straight Yorkers and having bowled the first out this way, Ethan had the control to repeat the feat in the two following deliveries.
Henry (2), Joel and Doug also picked up wickets with the ball but it is fair to say everyone bowled well. Easton’s fielding was excellent throughout the innings leading to two run outs.
Easton came into bat knowing the total was well within reach but with the aim of not losing wickets getting there.
First ball unfortunately led to the loss of Joel but after this the openers got stuck into the Wherwell bowlers and posted a partnership of 28. Arthur hit three boundaries including a fantastic hard hit six in his 16.
Tommy (16) and William (15) also batted aggressively with a flurry of boundaries including a sumptuous six from Will. In spite of losing a couple of wickets they scored a total of 29.
Ethan (24) and Henry (14) were successful in not losing any wickets and with boundaries again coming thick and fast posted the top partnership of 49.
Doug and Jim batted and ran steadily but the loss of a couple of wickets pegged back their partnership to 26. Alex and Jacob then saw Easton home with a contribution of 23 including two superb boundaries from Jacob.
Easton finished on 355 for 6.
My thanks to Stuart for scoring and to all parents for their support and boundary fielding skills.

U9s blown away by St Cross |
July 6, 2010
|
|
Easton lost by 39 runs to a good St Cross A side on Sunday.
Easton lost the toss and were asked to bat by St Cross. Strong wind on the day made the batting and bowling quite difficult – one end made the bowler super fast and the other end made the ball swing by about 3 feet!
St Cross mastered this better than Easton and our wickets started to fall quite regularly – especially when bowled at the fast end! However, having lost 6 wickets with the first two pairs – the second two pairs only lost 2 more wickets and scored many more runs, helping us to set a total of 263.
The top scorer was Jamie Kennard with 21 runs. A few less wickets would have set a more competitive total of about 280.
Easton started to bowl well and Charlie Freemantle got 3 wickets bowled (wind behind) in his first two overs – a great start, especially as he was bowling against their best batsman (who scored 23). Thereafter Easton were a little unlucky (we hit the wicket but the bails did not come off) and we dropped two important catches.
If these had all been wickets and we had bowled better into the wind, the game would have been very close. We gave away 44 extras (mainly wides into the wind) to St Cross's 30 extras.
Man of the Match was awarded to Charlie Freemantle for his excellent first two overs.
We are hoping our final match of the season will be this Sunday (11th July) against Sparsholt. |

Easton U13s Crash Out of Barfoot Plate in Tense Thriller |
July 4, 2010
|
|
Trojans prevailed in this closely fought Barfoot Plate Quarter Final at Stoneham Lane last Sunday. In a match that saw the best and worst of both teams 3 hours of play came to a climax off the very last ball of the match as Trojans required 1 run to win and visitors Easton required 1 wicket to go through. Despite their very best efforts Easton lost out as a no ball gave Trojans the runs they needed to get over the line.
Easton won the toss and elected to bat first confident of posting a competitive total as they had all season long. The visitors were in for a reality check however as accurate Trojans bowling pegged Easton back. The early losses of Calum Rigden and Dean Griffin halted Easton’s progress as they stalled at 47-3 after 8 overs. Alex Barker top scored with 38 not out, Ben Smith scored 9 and Sam Maunder 8 but weak batting was the team’s undoing as they closed out on 102 all out in 17.1 overs.
Despite having a meagre total to defend Easton were confident of getting the win they needed. As ever the team were vocal, supportive and fielded like demons to keep the pressure on the home team. The visitors made a dream start reducing Trojans to 29-4 after 6 overs – Alex, Ben Pendlebury and Dean doing the damage. Wickets continued to fall although Easton were at times inaccurate and wasteful. Dean took a third wicket as well as a catch, Adam Lobb took a good catch at point and keeper Sam Maunder capped an excellent performance behind the sticks by stumping White. Easton turned the screw when all seemed lost – Matt Cooper took 2 wickets and Ben Pendlebury kept things tight at the other end.
As the nerves began to jangle as the balls remaining counted down Easton kept going. Trojans arguably should have had the game tied up inside 17 overs as they had kept up with the required run rate for the whole game but they coped well with the pressure to edge over the line.
Trojans deserve great credit for keeping their heads as the mayhem unfolded around them. Easton will reflect on a lamentable performance with the bat – Alex scored more than the rest of the team put together and a failure to bat out their overs (a crime) cost the visitors dear. Wasteful bowling also did the team no favours – 51 extras were generously gifted to Trojans who accepted them with glee. As ever Easton’s team spirit remained undimmed and they always believed they would win – sadly that was not enough to get them the result they needed on this occasion.

Successful Weekend For Junior Teams |
June 28, 2010
|
|
Easton's junior teams enjoyed a successful weekend with the U11s, U13s and U15s all winning their matches.
The U15s beat Andover B last Friday and currently sit at the top of the U15 'B' Division having won 5 of their 7 matches played. Click here to see the U15 'B' league table.
The U13s progress to the second round of the Barfoot Plate having beaten Twyford by 60 runs. In a near faultless batting display the U13s piled on 163-2 in 20 overs - the top 3 batsmen retired: Will Kelsey scored 33, Alex Barker 30 and Dean Griffin 30. In reply Twyford were all out for 103 in 18.2 overs.
The U11s chased down 74 inside 6 overs to beat Andover by 10 wickets in their Oliver Plate match at Easton. They now host Twyford in the next round.
Good luck to all teams as they seek to continue with their winning ways in to July. |

Exceptional Ethan bowls U11s to win over Andover |
June 27, 2010
|
|
Easton U11s brushed aside Andover B on Sunday at home in the Oliver Plate knock-out, chasing down 74 runs to win inside of six overs by 10 wickets.
Andover's innings never really got going after Man of the Match Ethan tore into the visitors with an exceptional spell of accurate fast bowling. His figures of 4 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets for 16 runs were just what Easton needed as the fast outfield meant boundaries would come thick and fast when Andover did put bat to ball.
Easton bowlers were supported by excellent outfielding including two run outs - one a superb direct hit from Sam. Henry and Gabriel also bagged two good catches under pressure and everyone saved runs and cut off singles all around the park. This was truly the best team fielding performance to date from the 11s.
Half way through the 13th over, in the middle of an effective two-wicket spell from Kyle, Andover were bowled out for just 73 runs.
Easton's openers Arthur and Paolo then set about a very mature response that saw them knock off the runs and deliver victory in just the sixth over.
Paolo blasted his way to 31 not out with his innings including three fours and two sixes. Arthur meanwhile provided solid support with 8 not out, as both ran well picking up the pile of extras on offer from some wayward Andover bowling.
Easton play Twyford next Sunday at home in the Oliver Plate quarter finals. |

Kelsey Dominates As Easton U13s Go Through |
June 27, 2010
|
|
33 not out, 2 wickets and a catch for Will Kelsey helped Easton to a convincing win over Twyford in the Barfoot Plate first round match at Hunter Park last Sunday.
On a scorching hot day Easton won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored a near faultless 163-2 in 20 overs with Alex Barker and Dean Griffin both retiring on 30 and hitting ten 4s between them. Ben Smith scored 16, Matt Cooper 10 and George Leigh 5.
Twyford came in to bat and soon lost Odling and Plowright – Adam Lobb took both wickets. Easton thought they had their collective foot in the door but poor bowling and lacklustre fielding allowed Altham and Burdett to score steadily. It wasn’t until these two were dismissed that Easton really got back in to their stride. Will Kelsey’s introduction in to the attack brought immediate dividends and his figures of 3-1-10-2 speak for themselves. Matt Cooper also took two wickets and catches held by Sam Maunder and run outs from Alex Amies and Dean Griffin got Easton over the line inside 19 overs with Twyford all out for 103.
Grateful thanks to Simon Maunder for umpiring.

Easton U13s Beat Twyford by 80 Runs in Cup Dress Rehearsal |
June 20, 2010
|
|
In a dress rehearsal for next week’s Barfoot Plate Rnd 2 match Easton took on Twyford at Henry Beaufort School last Sunday and recorded a convincing victory winning by 80 runs in sunny but breezy conditions.
Easton lost the toss and were put in to bat by the visitors. Calum Rigden and Alex Barker combined well to put on 68 for the first wicket. Alex wasted no time in scoring quickly on his way to 26; smashing three 4s in one over was the highlight. Calum accumulated steadily eventually retiring on 30. Dean scored a quickfire 10 and enjoyed a productive partnership with Matt Cooper who batted with authority for his 18. Left-handers Ben Smith and Adam Lobb made things awkward for the Twyford bowlers – Ben scored 5 and Adam 10. It was left to Adam and George Leigh to get after the bowling in the final overs – George was very positive as he added 5 to bring Easton’s innings to a conclusion as the team posted 145-4 in 20 overs.
In reply Twyford started cautiously. Calum’s deadly accuracy was rewarded with the wicket of Angus Odling for 3; in the next over Alex struck to bowl Ryan Wood for 1. After 6 overs Twyford were 24-2. Matt Cooper and Dean Griffin combined well as Easton turned the screw. Alex Amies took a great catch to dismiss Fisher for 2 off the bowling of Cooper – Matt was in the action again in the next over as he took an excellent catch in the gully to dismiss Burdett off the bowling of Dean. Dean struck again in his next over as he clean bowled Walter for 4. Adam and Joseph kept the pressure on as Easton continued to impose themselves but it was Ben Smith’s double wicket maiden which proved decisive – George took a great catch to bag Druce for 4 and Alex Barker took a composed catch at long on to dismiss Giles Odling for no score. All were praying for a hatrick but the brave Phillips managed to keep the ball out. Phillips deserves great credit for bravely standing his ground whilst wickets were falling at the other end particularly in the face of some accurate bowling from the Easton attack. Joe Conroy and Sam Maunder shared the gloves - both gave nothing away as they kept wicket tidily throughout.
Easton played as a real team today. They supported one another, motivated and drove each other on and played as one to dominate proceedings from first ball til last. Above all they displayed all the qualities the coaching team have been looking for in recent weeks and will look forward to next week’s Cup match.

U9s demon bowling too strong for Hursley Park |
June 19, 2010
|
|
Easton U9s dominated Hursley Park with both bat and ball at home on Sunday, winning by 81 runs.
Easton batted first and had a great start with the opening pair putting on 32 runs without the loss of any wickets – Charlie Freemantle scoring 21 with some great hitting.
This tone continued with the rest of the team - and the third pair of Spencer and Christian putting on 44 runs (Spencer scoring 18) – really put Hursley under pressure and contributed to the team score of 313. All pairs batted and ran between the wickets well – we only lost 1 wicket (bowled) in the whole innings.
Hursley came in and were under immediate pressure with the first pair only scoring 9 runs - but losing 2 wickets (-1 net score!). This theme continued and wickets fell regularly with the team taking 9 in all (compared to Hursley taking 1).
Skipper Spencer led the way with the exceptional figures of three overs, one maiden, 4 wickets for just eight runs.
Ben and Charlie Blaxland took 2 wickets each and all bowlers did themselves proud. Hursley finished with a total of just 232 runs.
Easton therefore won by 81 runs and Spencer was nominated as the Man of the Match for his batting and bowling contribution.

Jamie and Spencer steer U9s to victory at Amport |
June 14, 2010
|
|
Easton recorded a solid victory against Amport – winning by 69 runs on Sunday.
Easton won the toss and put Amport in to bat. Good straight bowling by all 8 players and 5 wickets shared between Spencer, Charlie (Blaxland) and Alex kept the Amport total down to only 41 runs – but only 32 of these came off the bat. Very good fielding helped to keep this total under tight control. Not one Amport pair managed to score more than 15 runs in total.
Easton then batted and Spencer (19 runs); Jamie (18 runs) and Charlie (Freemantle – 15 runs) were the top scorers in our total of 310, with everyone batting sensibly and no-one being out more than once. We lost 5 wickets in our innings and scored 88 runs off the bat.
Particularly pleasing was that all pairs scored sensible runs, making good progress and not one pair was run out (we lost 7 wickets to run outs against Compton earlier in the season!).
Well done all round and the Man of the Match was judged to be Jamie Kennard for his batting and wicket keeping.
Our next game is against Hursley Park at 9.30am at Easton on Sunday 20th June. |

St Cross Have Too Much Fire Power for Easton |
June 13, 2010
|
|
Easton were unable to beat a St Cross side for the second time in 7 days last Sunday when they took on their County Champion ‘A’ team at Cockets Mead in the 2nd round of The Barfoot Cup.
On a glorious summer’s afternoon Easton won the toss and elected to bat first on a good hard pitch. St Cross wasted no time in stamping their superiority however when both Calum Rigden and Dean Griffin were removed for no score in Max Bickford’s first over. Yorkers accounted for both, and after 6 balls the tone was well and truly set as Will Kelsey and Alex Barker dug-in in an effort to give Easton’s innings some foundation. Runs did not come easily but both showed grit and determination – Will scored 7 and Alex 9. Matt Cooper and Adam Lobb also brought stability but in the end St Cross were simply too strong for Easton as they closed out on 51 all out inside 18 overs. Pick of the St Cross bowlers were Bickford, Simon Culmer and Nchikkhliwala all with 2 wickets each.
In reply St Cross wasted no time at all in chasing down the total. Joe Holland dominated retiring on 30, Culmer scored 3 and Ben Barber 5. Easton’s bowlers struggled to contain St Cross although Ben Pendlebury and Alex Barker bowled a maiden each in their spells. Throughout though Easton fielded very well as a unit and showed commitment and great team work at all times – Joe Conroy impressed as wicket keeper. Calum captained well and was well supported by all.
Easton should not be down hearted. This was only the second game they have lost all season – after all there is no disgrace losing to such an accomplished side as St Cross. Both teams should be applauded for the spirit in which this match was played which was excellent throughout. Easton face Twyford next week in what could be a dress rehearsal for the Barfoot Plate 1st round.
Thanks must go to Dan Rigden for umpiring – in all he must have stood for nearly 70 overs on Sunday. Also special thanks to all the parents for their support in providing a memorable tea – hopefully the first of many to be enjoyed by this team in the new pavilion

Ben's beauties bamboozle St Cross Bs |
June 7, 2010
|
|
Easton U9s enjoyed a 67-run victory over St Cross B on Sunday after a great all round team performance.
Easton lost the toss and were asked to bat by St Cross. We set ourselves a target of 300 runs and all pairs made good steady progress towards this – only losing one wicket on the way (we were saved by 3 dropped catches!!). We achieved 302 runs – if only it was always this simple!!
Ollie Miles top scored with 18 runs and Spencer and Jamie each contributed 13.
Once we started bowling, good accuracy and fine fielding kept the St Cross total down. Then Ben Cholerton came on and in his 2 overs got 3 wickets – for the expense of only 1 run. A very fine performance (following some sound coaching over the half term week by his father!).
From then on St Cross were never going to make the total and Easton saw out the victory as St Cross could only manage 235.
Well done to everyone who played – they all contributed to this solid display – with Ben taking the “Man of the Match” performance for his wickets.
Our next game is against Amport (away) on Sunday at 9.30am. The team will be sent around after Tuesdays practice session.
Many thanks to Kirstie for scoring.

Amport 11s give Easton a lesson in patience |
June 6, 2010
|
|
Amport U11s gave Easton a lesson in patience with the bat Sunday beating the visitors by 21 runs despite being restricted to 90 off 20 overs.
Easton, having won the toss and put the home side into bat, bowled accurately and aggressively for the majority of their 20 overs. Jim and Arthur both picked up wickets in their first two-over spells, restricting the Amport openers to just 1 run from their four overs.
Kyle also bowled well achieving the most economical figures of the Easton bowlers of 3 overs, no wickets for 8 runs. Tommy chipped in with a brace of wickets in another restrictive combination with Henry, who also bagged a wicket. Both bowled accurately.
In response Easton’s openers Arthur and Paolo did exactly what was asked of them and that was to not lose a wicket when presented with some rather erratic bowling that veered from very wide to bang on the money. They scored a partnership of 17.
Tommy and Kyle then pressed on and in spite of losing one wicket achieved a partnership of 23. Will, top scorer with 17, and Gabriel provided the best partnership of the innings of 29 runs and critically did not lose a wicket.
Will provided a masterclass in defending the straight deliveries and putting away anything with any width, thumping two fours and two twos in his innings.
Unfortunately Easton then lost momentum with some injudicious swinging at straight deliveries that saw a tumble of wickets. Henry with 12 runs gave Easton a fighting chance but in the end both he and Doug perished going for broke in a last ditch attempt to reach Amport’s score.
My thanks to Tansy for effortless skills with the scorecard and to all parents for supporting so well.

Easton U13s Brush St Cross Aside |
June 6, 2010
|
|
An inspired opening spell of bowling from Calum Rigden which reduced St Cross to 9-4 after 5 overs, saw Easton run out easy winners at Cockets Mead last Sunday. All this after valuable contributions from Dean Griffin (32 n/o) and Matt Cooper (19) allowed the team to post a creditable 136-7 after 20 overs. In reply St Cross managed 88-8.
On a warm Summer’s morning the first Junior team to enjoy Easton’s new sumptuous facilities wasted no time in posting a competitive total on a good, hard surface having been put in to bat by St Cross captain Reece. Easton lost Alex Barker early on but
Calum Rigden and Dean Griffin combined well to add 49 for the second wicket and set a solid foundation for the home side. Dean’s retirement allowed others to bat – Ben Smith added 6, Alex Amies 10, Sam Maunder 4 and Gabriel Shea 5 to see Easton post 136-7 at the break. St Cross captain Reece’s figures 3-0-1-9 and team mate Oliver 3-0-2-14.
Desperate to improve on the poor performance shown against Sparsholt in the previous match Easton wasted no time in stamping their collective authority in this match. Calum’s heroic efforts were matched by faultless fielding from the home side who were hungry and motivated. Dan Phillips, Alex Amies and Oscar Perriment made telling contributions. Ben Pendlebury bowled with great accuracy on his Easton for little reward as Calum let rip at the opposite end. Alex Barker, Dean Griffin, Ben Smith and Matt Cooper bagged a wicket each – Cooper snaffled 2 catches to round off an excellent match. Gabriel Shea and Sam Maunder shared wicket keeping duties and impressed all with their tidiness.
St Cross never really got going (Arkwright top scored with 13) but they played with great spirit throughout. Despite a terrific all round performance Easton will face a much sterner test next week when they take on County Champions St Cross ‘A’ in the 2nd round of the Barfoot Cup.

Paolo punishes Wherwell and steers U11s into cup second round |
May 30, 2010
|
|
Easton U11s brushed aside a depleted Wherwell side on Sunday in the first round of the Oliver Cup, winning by 63 runs after bowling the home team out in just 15 overs.
Easton, having been put into bat on a real old fashioned green top, scored 128 from 20 overs. Paolo hit a blistering unbeaten 29 and Tommy weighed in with a dashing 24. The visiting side lost wickets steadily through their innings which choked back the total, but also had to contend with a lot of wayward bowling which in the end amounted to 48. Easton will reflect on the fact they could have easily scored another 50 runs.
Wherwell, whose ranks were bolstered by Easton players Cameron, Alex and Joss, struggled to get any momentum under a bombardment from Easton’s heavy artillery in the shape of Jim, Joel and Arthur. Joel (2 overs, 2 wickets for 3 runs) and Jim (2 overs, 2 wickets for 4 runs) produced the best figures for Easton with Paolo (2 overs, 1 wicket for 6 runs) and Arthur and Kyle (both 2 overs, 1 wicket for 8 runs) lending strong support.
Easton’s ground fielding was excellent with all players contributing but Henry, with a catch and a direct hit run out, was outstanding. Gabriel and Arthur kept wicket well, as did Cameron playing for Wherwell.
The U11s go through to the second round of the cup where they meet Bishops Waltham at home on June 13 (sorry for the confusion but 2nd round dates have been changed!!). Clear the diary!
Thanks to Stuart for another strong performance with the scorecard and to all parents for your loyal support, which I know means a lot to the boys.

Jamie blazes trail and U9s bounce back in style |
May 25, 2010
|
|
Easton U9s responded in style after last week’s loss – and recorded a solid victory against Andover on Sunday morning.
Easton won the toss and put Andover in to bat. Good bowling and fielding from all the squad kept the score very tight. Regular wickets meant that the net score was very low all the way through to the last pair – who added more than the whole of the rest of the Andover team – but still lost 2 wickets in a frantic final 4 overs! The bowling honours were shared around – but the wickets tally was added to by a fantastic boundary catch by Jamie Kennard and a good caught and bowled by Archie Lawrence.
With only 228 to chase – the important thing was to bat sensibly and not lose wickets. Again, the whole team batted well and all pairs made good progress – with Jamie Kennard’s innings of 33 runs standing out. It was the highest score by an Easton U9 player this year! Charlie Blaxland and Archie Lawrence were the final pair and saw out the Andover bowlers - so we posted a total of 292 runs – winning the game by 64 runs.
The most memorable thing about the game was the amazing sunshine it was played in – after all the cold and rain so far it was a welcome change. But please remember to pack sun-cream and plenty of water for them all in future!

Hedge End too hot for U11s as wickets tumble |
May 23, 2010
|
|
Easton U11s went down valiantly in the baking heat at Hedge End on Sunday losing too many wickets in the end to challenge a well-drilled home side.
Hedge End scored 76 for the loss of five wickets batting first, choked back by tight bowling from Easton with Arthur (3 overs, 2 wickets for 8) and Will (2 overs, 1 maiden, 1 wicket for 1 run) both excellent. Easton’s ground fielding was brilliant in spells – led by Tommy and Henry – and stuck to the task despite the heat.
In reply Easton could only manage 53 for the loss of 9 wickets. Arthur, Jim and Sam deserve special mention for not losing their wickets as others all fell once or for some twice. Arthur (8) and Henry (5) opened against Hedge End’s fastest and most accurate pair - Joe and Sam - and did well to produce a partnership worth 11 runs.
Unfortunately Gabriel (6) and Will (9), most uncharacteristically, lost four wickets between them and therefore posted a minus score of 3. Jim (6) and Ethan (5) were the most successful partnership scoring 19 runs and only losing one wicket, helped by some wide bowling.
Tommy (10) and Cameron (3) scored well in a partnership of 12 but lost two wickets, which pegged them back. Doug (6) and Sam (5) batted positively as Hedge End’s finest returned to bowl, but by this time the game was gone. Their partnership was worth 14.
My thanks to Tansy for scoring and to all parents for their support. |

Sparsholt beat U13s |
May 23, 2010
|
|
Easton v Sparsholt
Easton was the venue for this game of two halves. Under scorching sun Easton batted first having won the toss and put on a very respectable 123 for 6 in 20 overs; having battled hard against a typically capable Sparsholt team the scene was set for a close encounter. However Easton completely lost all focus after the interval and collectively lost the plot – Sparsholt blazed away knocking the runs off with ease whilst Easton’s fielders floundered in the heat. In the end the visitors achieved their target inside 16 overs and Easton ended the day looking for answers as to where it all went wrong.
It had all started so brightly. Calum Rigden and Will Kelsey batted with great patience to build a bridgehead for the team against some excellent bowling from the visitiors. Will fell for 5 and Calum was unlucky, top edging a catch to Hemingway at point for 16. Alex Barker and Dean Griffin at first consolidated and then pressed on as they added 62 for the third wicket. Alex was eventually out for 21 having been stumped dancing down the pitch to spinner Foye; for the 4th match in a row Dean retired, this time on 28. Both boys had played some magnificent strokes and got the team in to a competitive position. Angus Fox, Matt Cooper, George Leigh and Adam Lobb all spent time in the middle and in the end the team closed out on 123-6.
However it all went wrong after the break. Perhaps over awed by Sparsholt’s reputation, Easton were punished from the off as Sparsholt scored at a rapid rate from the off. Fielders went AWOL as sloppy technique and a deplorable collective attitude handed Sparsholt the match inside the first 5 overs. Petty squabbles and a lack of concentration allowed the visitors to dominate. Easton chipped away though and wickets began to fall - Foye fell to Rigden having top adged an easy catch to Dean for 21; Alex bowled dangerman Hollingbery for 21 and Adam accounted for Glasspool who scored 1. Despite riding his luck early in his innings Philpott settled and scored an impressive 28 not out; partnered by Rosenflak, who scored 14 until bowled by Matt for 14, Sparsholt were by now home and hosed. Matt’s wicket saw a resurgence in Easton’s spirits and Will Kelsey bagged 2 more in his over to give the home team hope. It was to no avail though as Sparsholt closed out with 4 overs to spare to win at a canter.
Easton will reflect on a game where they really should have competed with a more spirited attitude. A lack of bottle cost them the game and if they are to beat the better sides this season they will have to show more collective ‘ticker’. Special mention must go to Gabriel Shea who kept wicket bravely and to Alex Amies and Joseph O’Connell-Danes who fielded enthusiastically throughout.

Tommy gets U11s off and running |
May 21, 2010
|
|
Easton U11s got their league programme off to a flying start on Friday against Fair Oak C away with a 50-run victory.
Fair Oak won the toss and elected to bat but accurate bowling and tight fielding restricted them to just 27 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Easton captain Jim led from the front with the ball, posting figures of three overs, one wicket for 5 runs. Kyle, Doug and Tommy also bowled well and picked up a wicket each, but Alex’s accuracy was outstanding and brought him two wickets in consecutive balls to set up a hat-trick chance. Paolo also produced fine economical bowling with his three overs yielding just 5 runs.
Ground fielding from Easton was sharp, producing two run outs, with one of them an excellent direct hit from fine leg from Paolo while Cameron was solid behind the stumps.
In reply, Easton scored 77 for 5 from 20 overs securing victory by 50 runs. Kyle and Paolo opened and put on 26 in the first four overs with some excellent straight hitting and running between the wickets.
Next in Tommy and Sam kept up the momentum with some big hitting that brought them three boundaries in a partnership of 26 despite the loss of one wicket. Tommy top-scored in the Easton innings with 16.
Easton then batted out the Innings in a solid enough way, although the loss of four wickets pegged the score back.
My thanks to Tansy for scoring. |

U13s - Easton Runfest as Rigden Runs Riot |
May 16, 2010
|
|
For the second week in succession Easton posted a massive score to bat the opposition out of the game. Away this week to Fair Oak, Easton racked up 153 runs and then bowled the home team out for 78 to remain unbeaten this season. In another solid performance it was the middle order who dominated on this occasion as in addition to Dean Griffin’s 26 not out, George Leigh added 20 and Ben Smith retired on 25 after a particularly swashbuckling innings.
Put in by Fair Oak on a flattish Lapstone Park wicket Alex Barker was unlucky to be bowled by a complete ‘shooter’ early on. Calum Rigden and Dean kept the board ticking over nicely until Calum was run out for 10. Dean once again played some excellent shots until his retirement on 26 forced his departure. George Leigh and Adam Lobb scored easily and ran well to keep the pressure on the home team. Adam was dismissed for 8 which brought Ben Smith to the crease. Fair Oak struggled with this new left hand/right hand partnership and Ben was quick to punish anything straying down the leg side. He played flamboyantly for his 25. Sam Maunder and Fergus Ward brought the innings to a close with 2 each as Easton posted yet another imposing total.
Easton applied pressure from the very first ball as Fair Oak began their reply. Calum struck in his second over as did Alex thus preventing Fair Oak building a foundation. Calum took his second wicket to leave the home side reeling on 17-3 after 5 overs. From then on Easton took wickets at regular intervals with Adam, Fergus, and Ben taking a wicket each. Only King and Colton established themselves for Fair Oak as they scored 12 and 11 respectively. But it was left to Calum to mop up the tail as he added two more taking his tally to 4 in a very disciplined display (it was on this ground two years ago that he also bagged 4!) as Easton ran out winners by 75 runs.
All in all another good performance from a team improving with every match. It was particularly good to see the middle order firing although Easton will rue the number of extras handed to the opposition once again – as the cup competitions loom this profligacy could come back to haunt them so plenty of hard work lies ahead to improve this part of their game. They can be happy with another good all round team performance which bodes well for the rest of the season.

Chairman's Letter |
May 9, 2010
|
|
Dear Members,
The last year has been a milestone for the Club and I thought it appropriate to let you have an update on the new Pavilion and what we can now look forward to in the future.
Despite the appalling weather we have all experienced this winter the building of the new Village Hall / Pavilion is on track (just!) for the beginning of the season. The contractors are aware of our fixture dates and will complete the ‘Pavilion’ and ground landscaping as a priority to meet the beginning of the season.
The Hall and Ground are now under one new Trust. The ‘village’ which has secured all the funding for the new Hall / Pavilion are at pains to be as accommodating to the Club as they can be. Inevitably, things will be different but overall I am sure you will find we have made real positive progress as a community in which we belong.
The Club will continue to be responsible for the maintenance of the ground and square which will be managed by Dave Cooper and a number of loyal helpers. The Hall will be responsible for the maintenance of the perimeter, gates and fencing. The Club is being given priority on match and coaching days but it is important that we maintain a close liaison with the bookings secretary, Ina Williams (01962 779465) at all times particularly when we are aware of our fixtures and coaching periods. It is quite possible that the main Hall will be used for an event such as a wedding on a match day so please be prepared to cooperate on such occasions.
Like any other user of the Hall/Pavilion, your committee will be asked to sign an agreement which will include a number of conditions and rules on issues such as security, tidiness and cleanliness. All members of the Club will be made aware of the details of this agreement and will be bound by it both individually and collectively.
I am very confident that the Club and you personally will benefit and greatly enjoy the new situation but I would ask you play your part in cooperating with and respecting the facility so that the whole community can do so as well.
With best wishes for a very successful and enjoyable season.

Record Score for U13s! |
May 9, 2010
|
|
The U13s blitzed 167 runs without losing a single wicket to post a record win against a young Tichborne team at a cold and windswept Cockets Mead last Sunday. Easton’s top order fired as one as Calum Rigden retired on 26, Will Kelsey retired on 28, Dean Griffin likewise on 25 and Alex Barker also carried his bat with 24 as did Matt Cooper who scored 5. Easton accumulated runs consistently as they seized on any loose bowling. All 5 batsman played some good strokes finding the gaps with regularity and at times hitting the ball with ferocious power – most memorable of all was Dean Griffin’s 6 over long-on which cleared the boundary by a mile. Just as important as hitting the ball was alert running – 19 were added by efficient backing up and capitalising on poor fielding and in another closer contest that could be the difference between success and failure.
It is a credit to Tichborne that they kept their heads up throughout the onslaught - Easton remember all too well as they were on the receiving end for most of last season. After the break the visitors set about trying to post a competitive score. Initially they struggled against accurate and perceptive bowling. Calum bowled 2 maidens in his 3 over spell and both Alex and Dean deserved reward for their persistence. Tichborne’s openers could not be shifted and although they struggled to score they showed great resilience to keep Easton’s best bowlers at bay. A change of batsmen and bowlers brought a breakthrough; George Leigh clean bowled Bristow for 4. An over later Oscar Perriment had Robson in trouble as he top edged to give keeper Sam Maunder took an easy catch. In the end Tichborne’s innings closed out on 77 some 90 runs behind Easton.
For the second week running Easton did well in the cold, biting wind and what started in the rain at Henry Beaufort against Otterbourne last week continued under leaden skies at Cockets Mead. Positive and confident batting, persistant pressure bowling and lightening fast commitment in the field meant that the result was never in doubt from the very first ball. Admittedly Tichborne were an inexperienced team but Easton did not lose focus. The danger when so clearly on top is for arrogance to creep in and for a team to lose the plot – not this team. A very satisfying start to the season – lets hope the good form continues when we travel to Fair Oak next week.

U11s and U9s battle bravely in the rain |
May 3, 2010
|
|
Easton & Martyr Worthy U11s and U9s were ultimately beaten by the weather on Sunday as they kicked off the new season with high hopes of victory against Twyford and Trojans.
The U11s fielded valiantly against a talented Twyford team away at Hunters Park, often in driving wind and without complaint.
Twyford could only manage 39 runs off their 20 overs with the loss of seven wickets pegging them back.
The whole Easton team bowled and fielded well and Cameron put in a great performance behind the stumps.
The pick of the bowlers were the captain Jim (3 overs, 2 wickets for 5 runs) and vice-captain Joel (3 overs, 2 wickets for 7 runs). Gabriel (2 overs, 2 wickets for 7 runs) and Arthur (2 overs for 3 runs) also bowled particularly well.
In the field Easton held all our catches despite cold hands (three in total) and by and large looked sharp.
Unfortunately, the game had to be abandoned between innings as the rain turned relentless but Easton can be satisfied they had gained the upper hand in the contest.
The U9s were similarly frustrated after scoring 98 runs off 20 overs against Trojans at home before the
rain prevented the visitors from completing their innings.
Jamie top scored with 9, Spencer scored 7 and Marcus 5.
In response, Trojans were making steady progress until Charlie (bowled) and Jack (run out) picked up a wicket each to peg the visitors back. Trojans had reached 45 from 14 overs when the rains intervened with finality.

U13s: Easton & Otterbourne Beaten By The Rain |
May 3, 2010
|
|
Easton & Otterbourne Beaten By The Rain
In the end the players could endure no more. Having fielded bravely in sideways rain and howling winds for nigh on 14 overs enough was enough. This tightly contested match fought out by two very even sides had to be abandoned just as the climax was building. Batting second and chasing Easton’s target of 96 Otterbourne had recovered from a couple of early setbacks and after a period of consolidation were keenly placed to chase down the target when a halt had to be called to proceedings.
Before the rain set in Easton won the toss and decided to bat. Calum and Alex started cautiously on an unfamiliar Henry Beaufort surface against Otterbourne’s opening bowlers who also struggled for accuracy initially. It soon became clear that the long outfield was going to make scoring difficult and Easton’s opening batsman ran well together to take maximum advantage of wides, byes and mis-fields. Calum was bowled by Moody for 5 and this brought Dean Griffin to the crease who once settled set about scoring at a rapid rate with some excellent stroke play. Alex’s dismissal for 5 (bowled by spinner Culpitt) brought in Adam Lobb who added 5 until caught by Bonzi. Matt Cooper batted brightly (8 n/o) as he and Dean kept the scoreboard ticking over. Dean’s retirement on 25 brought Will Kelsey (7 n/o) to the middle who impressed all with his positive approach and variety of strokes. Otterbourne’s bowlers were very disciplined towards the end and Easton closed out on 96 after 20 overs.
At the change over the weather took a much expected turn for the worst as the heavens opened and the rain started to fall. Undeterred Easton made a terrific start as Calum removed both Moody and Culpitt in his opening spell. With Otterbourne reeling at 9-2 Easton were confident of making further inroads. Alex kept the pressure on at the other end as Otterbourne’s Miles and Pearson worked hard to settle in. By now the weather was getting worse and a cold wind began to make life uncomfortable for all. The players were all keen to continue however and the breakthrough came for Easton as Adam clean bowled Pearson for 17.
Throughout and in awful conditions, Easton fielded with great spirit; Joe Conroy kept wicket very tidily and excellent contributions from Fergus Ward, Angus Fox, Oscar Perriment and Joseph O’Connell-Danes demonstrated what a well motivated team Easton can be at times. Dean Griffin bowled with great accuracy but Miles could not be removed as he built a solid innings – eventually reaching 21 as the worsening conditions brought an inevitable end to the match.
The players from both teams should be congratulated for the manner in which they played the match and all deserve to be applauded for the considerable effort shown in very challenging weather conditions.

The start of the 2010 Season and the New Clubhouse |
March 10, 2010
|
|
The Chairman reports that although the building of the new Village Hall and Clubhouse is now about a month behind schedule because of the weather, it will be finished for the first league match of the new season on 8 May 2010. The official opening will be on June 5th and all members are welcome to attend and take a look at this fabulous new building.
The club will not "own" the clubhouse but will have to pay the Village Hall a small sum in order to use it. They will expect us to leave it as we found it and so we need to keep up our normally high standards of tidiness and cleanliness
The building contractors have bee very careful and have caused minimal damage to the outfield but they are arranging for that to be rectified as is detailed in their contract. The club will be applying weedkiller to the outfield to kill the daisies and then the ground will be rolled. Did you know that square alone requires 40 hours of rolling prior to the start of the season? |

Easton U13s were pipped at the post by Cove in another nail-biting encounter at Dummer Cricket Centre last Monday evening. Chasing 104 to win Easton were keenly placed requiring 11 off 9 balls to steal a win against wily opposition. Cove gave nothing away with the ball in the final overs as Alex Barker and Matt Cooper sought to get the team over the line. Against some tight bowling Alex at last got his chance as Redhead dished up a fullish ball that was begging to be hit; and hit it was as he drove the ball straight passed the bowler along the ground and towards the back wall for a much needed 6. Inches from the back wall a Cove fielder stuck out a boot, the ball bounced off and in the air, was heading for the off-side wall only to be snaffled by the cover fielder for no run! Cove turned the screw in the final over as Matt was run out and in the end Easton came up short losing by 7 runs.
In truth Easton only had themselves to blame. Having won the toss and elected to bowl first the boys collectively struggled to keep the ball on target and as the number of extras piled up Cove must have thought their luck was in. The facts speak for themselves: Easton gifted their opponents 62 extras and scored 58 with the bat while Cove conceded 38 extras yet scored only 41 with the bat. When the radar was working Easton were dangerous. Calum Rigden took a good catch to dismiss opener Stein off the bowling of Alex Barker in the 2nd over; Adam Lobb impressed all with his left-arm fast bowling as he took a wicket with the first and third balls of his first over representing Easton indoors – Hambleton was clean bowled and Merryfield was caught brilliantly by Dean Griffin. Once again Dean epitomised the wholehearted fielding shown by all of Easton’s players; every loose ball was pounced upon, everyone backed up superbly (on one occasion Dean, Alex and Matt combined seamlessly to prevent a 6) and Sam Maunder impressed again behind the sticks. Calum marshalled the troops well and constant chatter from all maintained the team’s concentration throughout. Thanks to Easton’s largesse with the extras Cove closed out on 103-4.
Realising that they would need to keep the scoreboard ticking over at a fair lick if they were to chase down the target Calum and Dean set about the job in hand very brightly. Dean’s positive running put pressure on the Cove fielders from the off and demonstrated to the opposition how to turn 1s into 3s. Together they put on 39 for the first wicket until Dean played uppishly and was caught at cover for 7. Calum was joined in the middle by Alex and the two combined well dispatching the ball to all parts. Cove gave nothing away with the ball widthwise and bowled with considerable accuracy although they did struggle a little with pitching the ball beyond the line and all no balls were seized upon by both Alex and Calum. Cove’s persistence paid off and Calum was bowled by Rylance for 20. Adam batted brightly until he was run out for 5 and Sam Maunder played positively until bowled by Merryfield for 5. By now Cove could sniff a win and kept their collective composure as the pressure built and the drama unfolded in the final overs. Matt was run out for 1 and Alex was last man standing on 20 until run out off the last ball trying to edge nearer the target.
Once again Easton played with brio in this the top division at U13 level in this competition. Positive batting, energetic fielding and a terrific attitude all bode well for the future but the team must be disappointed with their collective bowling performance which effectively handed the win to their opponents on a plate. Local rivals Tichborne Park lie in wait on 27th February – perhaps on that occasion the boot will be on the other foot.

Club Clothing Exchange? |
January 16, 2010
|
Some of us parents of long and gangly U15s are starting to wonder what we're meant to do with all the club logo clothing our kids have grown out of. It seems a shame to pass it on to non-EMWCC kids or to charity shops and we'd prefer it stayed within the club.
Is anyone interested in either setting up or using some kind of second-hand Clothing Exchange then please contact the Webmaster: Suzanne MacLeod 01962 779413 or
email suzanne@macleods.org.
Comments and suggestions about such a scheme are very welcome too.
Best wishes,

U13 & U15 Winter Training Starts at Henry Beaufort Sports Hall |
January 14, 2010
|
|
Hi Everyone
A Happy New Year to you all. I hope you had a good Christmas and have been enjoying England's 'never say die' exploits in South Africa.
U13/U15 Indoor Training Programme
The Indoor Training Programme gets underway next Thursday at Henry Beaufort Sports Hall (top car park off Priors Dean Road for those unfamiliar with the location). Running coaching programmes at two different sites (the U9s & U11s train at Princes Mead) is an exciting development for the club and is testament to the enthusiasm shown by our junior players to participate in organised cricket at Easton. A lot of hard work and preparation has gone in to planning what we hope will be our most successful programme ever.
Whilst we are delighted to have the larger Henry Beaufort School Sports Hall as our home this year our sessions are limited to 1 hour only so, in order that we don't waste precious training time at the start of each session, please ensure that you are on site and ready to take part by 6:50(U13) or 7:50(U15)
At times we will be welcoming Mike Pollard from Hampshire Cricket Board who will be joining us to assist Robert Perriam who is taking his ECB Level 2 Coach Award this winter. We are very lucky to have the assistance of County coaches and I'm sure I don't need to remind you all of the need to behave as ambassadors for Easton & Martyr Worthy Cricket Club whilst Mike is with us.
So, now is the time to get kit bags out of the garage and check your gear is in order. The coaching team very much looks forward to seeing you all at promptly next Thursday as we get the ball rolling in preparation for the 2010 season.
Membership Reminder
If you haven't done so already, now is also the time to compete and return your 2010 membership forms. The club will shortly be entering teams in to the district leagues for the summer season and it would be helpful to have an idea of numbers. We don't want payment right now - just enclose a post dated cheque/s with your forms and you can put off payment until the Spring. The important thing is to return your forms to me as soon as you can.

The coaching team are already making plans for the 10 sessions on offer - with 3 of our coaches progressing to Level 2 as the programme is in progress you can be rest assured that our sessions will be of an even higher standard than usual. We are also very lucky to have 4 Hampshire County coaches in attendance for 9 sessions across all four age groups. I cannot stress highly enough the importance of this breakthrough development; we have been very busy during the Autumn building on our links with Hampshire Cricket Board (based at The Rose Bowl) and it is an ideal opportunity for all course participants to benefit from the priceless expertise that these highly respected coaches bring with them as they support our prospective Level 2s. In addition, and as ever, 'The Winter Training Programme' provides:
- A focus on core skills
- Fun, skills based games
- Structured net sessions utilising the club bowling machine
- High coach/player ratios
With more of our players than ever playing competitive indoor league cricket this winter some sessions will be specifically structured to help our teams prosper at this form of the game.

Junior Indoor Teams all up and running |
November 22, 2009
|
Junior organiser Damon Barker has congratulated the U15s and their manager on their first ever indoor match.
"Sounds like a well contested match. Well done to the U15s for giving a highly regarded Alton team such a good game. Good to hear of so many great individual performances for this first outing." You can read the match report here.
Damon reports that all junior age groups are now up and running in their indoor leagues. All have work to do to bowl straight and on a good length (to cut down on gift extras) and also to play straight or in the 'v' to score well with the bat. |

Easton U11s Pipped by Basingstoke |

Batting second and chasing 108 to win Easton just fell short of beating Basingstoke A as they closed out on 97. Bright indoor debuts by Doug Rigden (top scorer with 14), Arthur Lee, Sam Green and Gabriel Jordan kept Easton in the hunt throughout. Well led by Joel Green and supported by Ethan Brackstone Easton U11s can be proud of pushing one of the strongest sides in the county so close. |

Easton U13 beat Aldershot in Last Ball Thriller |
November 1, 2009
|
|
Easton and Martyr Worthy U13s on Saturday beat Aldershot by two runs in a thrilling indoor encounter at Dummer that was decided by the very last delivery of the 12-over aside match.
Alex Barker held his nerve with the final six deliveries of the game, managing not to concede a single wide or no-ball and by taking a wicket with the last delivery of the match with Aldershot needing just three to win.
Easton scored 124 for two off their 12 overs, having been put into bat first, landing a batting bonus point into the bargain.
Matt Perriam (21 retired) and Alex (6) got the innings off to a very solid and positive start, building a good platform for Calum Rigden (21 retired) and Dean Griffin (16 not out) to let loose. Both were particularly destructive with the bat. Matt, Calum and Dean between them scored a total of six sixes. Alex, Sam (4) and Ben (3) supported well, with Ben’s three runs off the one delivery he got to face, typical of the positive attitude the whole team brought to the batting.
Aldershot were out of the blocks quickly and after four overs were 11 runs ahead of where Easton were after the same number of deliveries. Bramley and McCaffery for Aldershot gave a masterclass in tip and run combined with some big boundary hitting.
Matt started to apply the pressure with six dot balls in his twelve deliveries and Alex bowled with a disciplined line and length that kept wides and no balls to a minimum.
Calum then came into the bowling to apply the handbrake to Aldershot’s speed-gathering batting bus. His first over went for just 3 runs and his second just five, with the vital wicket of McCafferty for 15 taken by a good pouch from Alex at point.
By the end of the seventh over Aldershot had been pulled back to just two ahead of where Easton were at 67 runs and by the end of the 10th over had slipped behind to be on 97 compared with Easton’s 109.
All the Easton players contributed in the field, with Dean outstanding in this respect throwing himself around the pitch cutting off numerous runs. Sam also played well with tidy glovework behind the stumps.
Ben Smith bowled his two overs when the pressure was beginning to mount and Aldershot starting to hit out. He held his composure and conceded just 9 from the 9th over of the match to keep the lid on Aldershot.
So it came to the dramatic conclusion of the match – the final over. Aldershot needed 14 to win and Easton’s skipper Calum knew he needed an over when no wides or no-balls would be given away. He threw the ball to Alex who in his first two overs had conceded just two extras.
Alex did not disappoint. The first ball of the over was a prized dot ball. His second went for three off the bat, meaning Aldershot needed 11 to win from four balls. Easton’s fielders had to keep their concentration. The third ball was again runs for the bat with Easton adding to the three with a loose piece of fielding that conceded an overthrow.
Aldershot now needed just 7 from the last three balls but Alex came back strongly with another crucial dot ball that put the pressure firmly back on the batting side. Seven runs needed from two balls. The next ball went for four and it was down to the death with three needed from the last delivery. Alex bowled yet another good length delivery, this time on leg stump which Fanshaw got a thin edge or glove on and Sam took an excellent catch. It was all over and victory was Easton’s.
This was a very tight match between two closely matched teams. The stats say it all with both teams conceding 53 extras, both teams taking two wickets but with Easton scoring 71 runs off the bat against Aldershot’s 69.

The club AGM went well last night and we heard that the club was in a sound financial position.
Steve Green, the Club Captain spoke of the optimism in the club and how gratifying it had been this year to welcome such well-trained juniors into some of the senior teams. We heard that the Cricket Club has a responsibility for the Village Fee in Easton this year and how it has also been asked to present a sketch at the Easton Revue at Christmas.

Junior Winter Training |
October 6, 2009
|
|
We have made big changes to our Winter Training Programme which starts in January. In the past we have squeezed all 4 age groups in to one evening at Princes Mead. The compact nature of this arrangement was not ideal so I’m very pleased to announce that we have secured use of Henry Beaufort Sports Hall for the exclusive use of our U13 and U15 age groups on Thursday nights – this will allow our juniors to continue to attend football and hockey on a Friday night as well as prepare for the 2010 cricket season.
A booking form for places on the winter Training Programme will be sent out shortly – like last year each participant will have to pay a modest training fee to cover the cost of hiring both facilities. For the meantime here are some dates for your diary:
U9 (Yrs 3/4) & U11(Yrs 5/6) Winter Training
Princes Mead School Sports Hall. Split Sessions 15.1.09 – 16.4.09
U13 (Yrs 7/8) & U15(Yrs 9/10) Winter Training

2nds roll back the years |
August 24, 2009
|
|
Sorry for the weeks I have missed but here is your latest weekly report. The 2nds faced Ropley on Saturday with 10 players. Of those 6 were father and sons. Wilmott Jnr and Senior, Yeates Jnr and Senior and Neville senior and even older senior.
Easton batted first with Boothy and Sam opening. Usual story - Easton lose early wicket with Sam edging a hook down onto his wickets. Ashleigh followed soon after to leave us not a lot for 2.
In comes Yeates Jnr who although not rapidly scoring occupied the crease well and played more straight shots in one game that some have in years (Neville Jnr springs to mind).
The score ticket on (very slowly according to Razor) and we were 49-2 at the half way mark.
Shaun tried to up the run rate as "One yard quicker" Boothy gave up the quick singles and lost his wicket in the process.
Yeates replaced Yeates and balls started heading over the Boundry at regular intervals. Trev losing his wicket for a fine 86 after a 100+ partnership.
With 2 overs to go Nevs went out to see if he could give the strike to boothy and try to get him past his 100. Dodgy fielding and batting left him at the non strikers end for most of the remaining ball so he finished on a fantastic 93 not out.
Easton 217 -4
Shaun opened the bowling and had a fine spell - at the other end "who ate all the sarnies" Razor was puffing like a steam train. Nevs had to take him off to save the day.
Ash replaced Shaun and Trev (yes Trev) replaced Razor.
Ropley 84 for 0 at 20 overs.
Ash then took two in two balls to make big inroads to the Ropley line up. He also had to cover half the field whilst fielding. Paul Sanders and Sam assisted and covered the other 7 players well. Speed, stanima and agility were missing on the day but the team performed amirably.
Boothy, Trev and Razor then cleared up the rest to leave Ropley all out 14 runs short. Nevs stumping (running out) the last batsman 3 times before he was given out.
Easton Manimum 24 points.
How did we win that????
Last game next week - Away to Steep 2nd's.
Neville and Wilmott Seniors don't put the kit away yet !!!!

Amies Aims High |
July 26, 2009
|
|
For the second season in a row Alex Amies left it to the last game of the season to show what he can do with the bat! His excellent 30 not out included 5 fours and helped Easton U13s push Fair Oak close in a tight finish at Cockets Mead last Sunday.
Having won the toss and elected to put Fair Oak in on a very damp wicket captain Calum Rigden and Matt Cooper bowled with immense control to keep Fair Oak openers Gargaro and Knaggs at bay in the early overs. Alex Barker and Caspar Larcombe combined well – Caspar’s first ball accounted for Knaggs with the score on 26 and shortly afterwards Alex Barker clean bowled Birnie and dangerman Gargaro was run out 2 balls later. Ben Smith and James Duncan kept up the good work – Ben snaffled the wicket of Bound with his first ball and smart fielding resulted in the run out of Wear 2 balls later. With Fair Oak rocking on 53-5 after 14 overs Easton were looking good – a productive partnership from Oak’s King and Gough nudged the score along and the visitors closed out on 93 after 20 overs.
Needing to tick along at 5 an over Easton openers Calum and Alex Barker looked in good touch as they set about the tack in hand. Both played the ball nicely with well timed shots setting the right tone. Alex, having looked comfortable from the start, was deceived by a fuller ball and was dismissed for 7 as Easton lost their first wicket with 9 on the board. Caspar was very unlucky to have been run out 2 balls later and at this early stage things were looking dodgy.
In came Alex Amies. From the off he set off in positive fashion taking 2 of his first ball; the die was cast. With Calum playing sensibly at the other end a good partnership was building nicely. Spinner Gargaro had different ideas however as both Calum and Sam were dismissed in identical fashion playing too early to a flighted ball gifting caught and bowled chances to the Fair Oak captain. Now it was Easton who were rocking. Ben Smith came to the crease and was the perfect foil for the dominant Amies as the visitors struggled to cope with this productive left hand/right hand partnership. Ben eventually fell for 10 having been caught by Ploughman off the bowling of King.
By now Easton were well placed and needed 21 off the final 3 overs to see them across the line. Alex took a single and retirement beckoned as he reached 30 largely untroubled. Sadly this left a mountain to climb for Bradley, James and Hamish just at the time Fair Oak got on top with the ball. Sadly for Easton they fell 16 runs short and Fair Oak went home with the spoils at the end of this hard fought contest.
Despite the loss the Easton players can be very proud of the way they performed in this their final match of the season. In their very last game they finally got it right – pressure with the ball and some excellent fielding by all pegged Fair Oak back – endeavour with the bat nearly brought home the bacon as well. It has been a tough season – but all the signs are there for success for this group of players next season. Well done to you all.

U9s go down fighting in Basingstoke Cup quarter final |
July 24, 2009
|
|
Easton U9s finally tasted defeat on Friday being beaten in the Basingstoke U9 Cup quarter final by a talented Petersfield side.
The 10-strong squad did themselves proud in this short format tournament winning their first three matches on the trot to top their group.
Playing on unfamiliar grass wickets, sometimes in the rain, the squad beat first Odiham, then Amport and in their last group stage match Wield.
The result sent the team through as group winners into the Cup competition quarter final.
A long delay did not help preparations for this final match and in the end Easton were beaten by the big hitting of two or three Petersfield batsmen.
The team were not daunted by chasing a total of 65 runs in eight overs and ultimately went down giving it their all, although the total proved too challenging.
The whole squad – Gabriel, Will, Doug, Henry, Tommy, Sam (Green), Sam (Langley), Max, Joss and Charlie – all put in performances of excellence at some point in the tournament and I can ask for no more than that.
All players should temper their disappointment in not progressing to the semis by reflecting on two main points:
1)The eight over format, one over each, is not something we are used to and does not give you a chance as a bowler or batsmen, to play yourself in.
2)The grass wickets and different ball (harder, with more pronounced seam) made batting difficult because of the deviation off the wicket. It was the same for all teams, but we have much less experience of it than others because we play so much on artificial surfaces.
Thank you to Adam for scoring all the matches and for helping with coaching and managing the team. Thanks also to all the parents who came along and supported their children throughout a sometimes challenging day (with much sheltering under trees!) |

U9 skipper leads from the front with top batting average |
July 21, 2009
|
|
U9 skipper Gabriel tops the batting statistics for the U9 A Division side this season with an impressive average of 53 and an amazing aggregate of 160 runs.
With the divisional matches now finished, figures compiled by Stuart Upcraft show Spencer heads the bowling stats with an excellent average of 5.3.
Doug follows close behind with an average of 5.9 having taken more than double the number of wickets at 15 than anyone else. Spencer bagged 6 wickets in just 5 matches.
Will picked up 7 wickets in the season at 8.3, with Gabriel also getting 7 at 13.3 and Sam 7 at 13.4.
Spencer also achieved the lowest economy of 3.56, with Will next most economic with 3.63 and Doug and Louis following with 3.83 each.
Most impressive is the fact that eight players achieved bowling averages of 15 or under and nine players achieved an average economy of under 6 runs an over.
In the batting seven players scored over 60 runs in the season with six achieving averages above 20. Folllowing Gabriel in the averages, Spencer achieved 35 for the season, Will 30 and Sam 26. Sam also top scored with 26 in one match.

10 out of 10 for U9s |
July 19, 2009
|
|
Easton & Martyr Worthy U9s finished their A Division campaign in style Sunday with a 30-run victory over Compton and Chandlers Ford away.
The result seals an unbeaten played 10, won 10 record for the season.
The visitors, put into bat first, scored 55 runs off 16 overs for the loss of eight wickets against a strong Compton fielding side.
However, tight bowling and sharp ground fielding restricted the home side to just 25 runs for the loss of 10 wickets.
Batting was led not for the first time by a scintillating performance from skipper Gabriel, who scored 21 including a six, but the whole team contributed.
Man of the match Henry put in a particularly brave performance coming back to bat after retiring hurt with a hamstring strain after a running mix up in the first over.
Easton’s bowling was another good team effort with Sam, Gabriel and Henry all picking up two wickets each with Tommy taking one.
Again Easton fielding was tight and rewarded with three run outs.
Catching was also first class with difficult chances pouched by Gabriel behind the wicket and Will in the deep.

U9s do the double against valiant Fair Oak |
July 5, 2009
|
|
Easton U9s did the double against Fair Oak on Sunday, winning both in the A Division at home and away in a B Division match.
At home Easton won by 40 runs, extending their unbeaten run to nine matches, having restricted an impressive Fair Oak batting line up to 63 for 5 off 16 overs.
Sharp fielding and accurate bowling steadied the ship after the Fair Oak openers Ryan and Callan came out all guns blazing.
Doug picked up two wickets, Arthur one and Man of the Match Spencer also grabbed one and delivered the best economy of 3.5. In the field everyone was sharp with Arthur getting a run out with a direct hit from fine leg and Will taking a good catch at mid-on.
In response Easton scored 103 for four, but at first found it hard going against some accurate bowling from Ryan and Callan. However, captain Gabriel, with the top score of 23 and Will, with 17, turned the tide in Easton’s favour with a stand of 37. Spencer with 20, and Sam (13) and Tommy (11) then saw the home side home.
Away at Colden Common Easton won by a similar margin after scoring around 110 runs off 20 overs and keeping Fair Oak to around 60. Felix was Man of the Match for a strong all round performance while Joss and Sky excelled with the bat and Harry and Alex also played very well.
Full details to follow… and in the case of the B Division match, more accurate reporting!

Easton U9s enjoyed mixed fortunes home and away against Hursley Park and IBM on Sunday but the club remains unbeaten in the A Division.
At home against Hursley Park our A Division side again produced a ruthless display in the field to win its eighth game in a row by 84 runs.
Easton batted first and racked up 105 for the loss of four wickets against a decent Hursley bowling attack. Gabriel top scored with a sensible 20, Will scored 19, Doug 18 and Charlie 13.
Hursley’s innings struggled to get out of the blocks faced by an opening salvo from Arthur and Doug that yielded four wickets with the ball and one run out.
Will and Gabriel then kept up the pressure taking another two wickets and giving nothing away with Tommy and Spencer cementing things with a further three wickets.
Easton’s fielding was again out of the top drawer, with two excellent catches behind the stumps for Gabriel, and one sensational pouch each for Joss and Will. Hursley scored 21 for the loss of 10 wickets with William top scoring with 12.
Away in the B Division Easton put up a brave performance against Hursley IBM, fielding as they did with only 7 players in a 20-over game, but lost in the end by 40 runs. Man of the Match was Sam.

Easton U13s Early Ambush Fails To Stop Compton |
June 22, 2009
|
|
Despite first innings heroics from Alex Barker and Calum Rigden who both took 4 wickets a piece it was Compton and Chandlers Ford who ultimately dominated with ball in hand as they eased passed a plucky Easton side to reach the semi-finals of the Barfoot Plate.
Calum won the toss and elected to bowl first on a green-top. Right from the start Easton were all over the Compton batsmen – a brace of wickets from a fired up Calum and an excellent run out from Matt Perriam reduced the visitors to 11-3 after 3 overs. Taken completely by surprise a shell shocked Compton had to quickly gather their wits if they were to prosper against a well organised Easton team. They have district player Matthew Haworth to thank for saving their blushes as he batted with élan to add 33 before he had to retire (his selection to play against MCC next week is testament to his talent and also means he misses Compton’s next match).
Compton’s middle order settled down and continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over nicely. Until that is, Messrs Barker and Rigden swept through the visitors like a wrecking ball. Alex had dangerman Poulter lbw for 26 off the 3rd ball of his first over and the die was cast. Three more Compton victims followed and after bagging his 4th Alex went after his 5th victim. Not to be denied at the other end Calum snaffled two of Compton’s tale-enders to restrict this ‘A’ Division side to 135 after 20 overs. Throughout the whirlwind Easton fielded well throughout; calm catches from Matt Cooper, James Duncan and Caspar Larcombe gave Compton the jitters as they lost 5 wickets for 31 runs.
Once again Easton’s young players had over performed against top class opposition with ball in hand. Sadly for them the pattern of this season’s inadequacies with the bat continued as Compton’s talented attack dispensed with them in fairly short measure. Matt Haworth once again dominated early on, ably assisted by younger brother Mike and Jack Dawkins who gave absolutely nothing away as Calum, Dean and Alex toiled away. In the end Easton were all out for 36.
Credit must go to all of Easton’s players for the effort shown but once again technical deficiencies with bat in hand were the team’s undoing. Yes, this Compton team were chock full of experienced Yr 8 players but our Yr 7s have plenty of hard yakka ahead of them if they are to compete with these teams – the message from coaches at the end of the match was for all players to get in the nets and work on their batting. Time spent grafting now and throughout the winter will pay dividends in the end.

U9s wicked wicket wonder too much for brave Ropley |
June 21, 2009
|
|
Easton U9s produced a performance of clinical brilliance in the field against Ropley away in the A Division on Sunday, rattling out a stunning 16 wickets to secure a 102 run win.
The visiting side, put in to bat first on an unfamiliar grass wicket, scored a very respectable 131 runs from 20 overs. Sam top scored with 26, Gabriel hit 21, Henry 19 and Joss 18. Eight wickets went down as Ropley put on a first class display of ground fielding that set the tone for the day.
Easton knew they had runs on the board to defend but would have to bowl tightly in their 20 overs to keep a talented Ropley side at bay.
What then followed was unrelenting pressure from Easton that simply refused Ropley any chance of getting going in their innings. In the end the home side were restricted to 29 runs for 16 off 20.
Every one of the 10 bowlers picked up at least one wicket while sharp outfielding was rewarded with a stumping, three catches and two run outs. Doug took three wickets and Gabriel and Will each bagged two.

U9s make hay in the sun to beat St Cross home and away |
June 14, 2009
|
|
Easton U9s made hay in the mid-summer sunshine on Sunday as they racked up big tons to sink St Cross in both A and B Division matches.
A record half century stand between Gabriel and Will set up victory at home in the A Division after a razor sharp fielding performance had restricted St Cross As to just 32 runs from 16 overs.
Easton scored 122 for the loss of just three wickets, with Gabriel smashing two sixes in his 19, Will four fours in his 20 and Tommy two fours and a six in his 19.
St Cross, put into bat first, lost 8 wickets in their innings with Spencer the stand out bowler with figures of two overs, two wickets for 6 runs. Brilliant ground fielding was rewarded with two run outs and Gabriel took an excellent catch behind the wicket.
In the B Division away from home Easton scored a sensational 144 for no wickets and restricted St Cross to 44 for four.
Manager Neil Gavins said everyone contributed with bat or ball in a great team performance. Joss was particularly destructive with the willow, scoring 25 runs including four fours and a six. Sam also excelled with 22 containing four fours.
Accurate bowling was led by Harry and Christian with the identical impressive figures of two overs, one wicket for three runs.

U13s Crush Trojans |
June 8, 2009
|
An epic all round performance with bat and ball saw Trojans swept aside at Cockets Mead last Sunday (7/6) as Easton recorded their first win of the Summer. Recent performances had offered glimmers of what could be if the team could focus their efforts from start to finish and so it was as Trojans crumbled against a well drilled and disciplined Easton side.
Looking to capitalise on a wicket left sticky from heavy overnight rain it was no surprise when Trojans captain Milo Flahaven elected to bowl first as Trojans won the toss. Easton had other ideas though. Openers Matthew Perriam and Zac Mitchell (both selected to add much needed firepower at the top of the order) strode to the wicket with instructions ‘to play your shots and have a good go’ duly obliged. Fresh from his exploits against St Cross the previous Monday, Matthew dispatched his first delivery for 4; Zac smashed his second ball to the boundary just backward of square for a 4 and the die was cast. Zac batted with typical swagger until he was run out for 18 and Calum joined Matthew as they crashed on together dismissing Trojan’s bowling to all parts.
Matthew retired having reached 30 in great style with 4 overs to go in the innings. Alex Barker came to the crease looking to find some form. Conscious that Easton needed to up the run rate to 8 an over if they were going to make life difficult for Trojans he and Calum set about chasing anything loose and pushing for every single available. This positive attitude took Calum to 33 not out as he retired and Alex and first Angus Fox and then George Leigh closed out the Easton innings having posted a total of 115 for the loss of 2 wickets.
For the first time this season Easton had delivered with the bat – they rode their luck at times admittedly as a couple of very tight run out appeals went their way but they realised the need to play positively, to push on and take the game to their opponents. This change in mind set allowed the team to dominate the bowling from the off rather than in parts as in previous matches. As a result of some exemplary batting early on Easton had got themselves in to a great position by the break.
With a decent total to defend as they took to the field Easton’s bowlers needed no further encouragement to make their mark. James Duncan impressed once again as his seriously quick yet accurate bowling caused Trojans problems from the off. He was rightly rewarded as he bowled Pickett for 1 off the first ball of his second over. His strike partner Matt Cooper was as irrepressible as ever as first he clean bowled Orr for 1 and then in his third over dismissed Hogan as he holed out to Angus Fox at mid on for a duck.
Easton’s fielding, light years away from the dross of last week, was right on the money – Calum ran out opener Munro for 8, James ran out White for 2 as well as taking a composed catch at point off the bowling of Calum to dismiss Sahota for 0. Catch of the day though went to Angus who took a wonderful catch at his feet on his debut to dismiss Gibbons for 0 off the bowling of Matt Perriam.
Throughout, Trojans captain Flahavan batted with great skill as he retired on 30. There was no let up for the rest of the Trojans team though as Easton’s attack swept through them like a juggernaut. Calum and Matthew bowled gun barrel straight to snaffle a wicket each and with the pitch now dry Alex Barker and Zac Mitchell consistently hit the cracks on a length and were like foxes in the hen house as Easton set about finishing off the visitors – Alex was imperious as he bagged 2 wickets (one a well taken catch by Sam Maunder) for 3 runs in a three over spell recording a wicket maiden in his final over. Zac was as lightening fast as ever and was simply too good for Young who was clean bowled for 1. Special mention must go to Joe Conroy who as wicket keeper kept very well to some extremely quick bowlers throughout. Easton conceded 18 extras which was a dramatic improvement on the 34 given away to Andover the previous week. This was testament to a dramatically improved bowling performance and some agile fielding from all participants.
Thanks to the hard work of all those on the field Easton crushed Trojans reducing them to 64 all out off 17.2 overs. What a turnaround and what a difference a week can make. Proof if ever it was needed that a team can achieve anything with a positive mindset and proof also that this group of players are back with a bang. Trojans were beaten with no small amount of skill and also by Easton’s force of personality which ripped through the visitors like a whirlwind. All this brought memories of last year’s cup run flooding back – all very timely as Easton travel to Amport for the first round of the Barfoot Cup. Could the same happen again?

Bitter-sweet weekend for U9s |
June 7, 2009
|
|
Easton U9s experienced mixed fortunes at the weekend, losing by 51 runs in their B Division match against Amport but winning in the A Division against Andover by 44.
At home against Amport, an underweight Easton side, with big-hitter Joss unable to play because of a fever, were almost single-handedly beaten by the talents of Amport’s Nathan Burkes. Batting number 7 he scored a staggering 58 runs off 4 overs.
Easton coach Trevor Griffin said: “Not only did he score heaps of runs - he just clubbed everything to the boundary - he then proceeded to catch one behind the wicket, stump two and he was good with the ball as well.”
Easton captain Max top scored with 16 runs and also led the bowling with three wickets, ably supported by Sam (one wicket) and both Alex lock and Alex Court.
In the A Division Easton soundly beat Andover by scoring 90 for the loss of five wickets and then kept the home side down to 46 for 6 off their 16 overs.
Skipper Gabriel top-scored with 17, Louis scored 14 and Tommy 12. Bowling was led by Doug (3 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets for 6 runs), Will (2 overs, 1 maiden, 1 wicket for 2 runs) and Sam (2 overs 1 wicket for 4 runs). |

Catches win matches for Tommy as U9s do the double |
May 31, 2009
|
|
Easton & Martyr Worthy U9s notched up two more good victories today, beating Sparsholt in the A Division by 40 runs and Andover in the B Division by 39.
At home, in the A division match, it was a case of catches win matches as Easton held on to a number of difficult chances to choke back Sparsholt’s batsmen with seven fine wickets.
Tommy showed an outstanding pair of hands to take three catches and led the bowling with excellent figures of two overs, two wickets for just four runs.
Easton, put in to bat by the visitors, made 83 for 4 off 16 overs in a solid batting performance against a strange mixture of sometimes accurate and sometimes very wayward bowling from Sparsholt. In response, Sparsholt could only manage 43 for the loss of 7 wickets off their 16 overs.
Away to Andover in the B Division, Easton restricted the home side to 84 for 1 with Max the standout bowler. In response Easton scored 123, also for the loss of one wicket, from their 16 overs. Joss top-scored with 12, but useful contributions also came from Harry and Spencer.
Full A Division report and scorecard to follow later today, with the B Division scorecard and report coming later in the week (hopefully). |

2nds Respond with fine victory |
May 27, 2009
|
|
The second team made up for last weeks poor performance with Maximum points against Compton and Chandlers Ford.
Skipper Jenner inserted them into bat and some fine bowling by Inzi (10-2-19-2) and Pierre (10-2-23-3) restricted the visitors to 50 for 5 off 20 overs).
The Skipper came on first change and got edged all over the field (4-0-18-0) before replacing himself with the "Trundler" Boothy who bowled 7 overs for just 9 runs.
At the other end Nevs bowled some pies but got the important breakthrough (10-1-42-2). (He can't blame the Gale force wind this week)
Compton were all out for 130 with 3 balls left when a direct hit from the boundry by Nevs left the batsman only making nine / tenths of the 2nd run.
Boothy and Rich Vaughan opening the batting with the usual early wicket falling - Booth caught at Mid off disputedly. Debutant James Chalis hit a rapid 42 during a stand of 70+ with Vaughny (39).
Other dubutant Paul Sanders (2) was last wicket to fall before Skipper Jenner 22 and Mark Dickety saw us home.
Another 24 points - A hissy fit from Boothy following his dismissal - direct him from Boundry by Nevs. Their Keeper conceding more Byes than ours !!!
In all a very good day
Game played on one of the hardest May tracks ever known at Easton - thanks very much to the Ground staff.
Thanks to those who gave me the feedback.

Demon Doug destroys Fair Oak |
May 24, 2009
|
|
Easton & Martyr Worthy U9s dominated with ball and then bat to beat Fair Oak As by 38 runs in a 20 over away match under cloudless skies at Colden Common.
Easton took 10 wickets and fielded brilliantly to restrict Fair Oak to just 59 runs and then scored 97, although they did lose eight wickets in doing so.
Doug (man of the match) led the bowling strongly with some genuine quick bowling returning figures of three overs, four wickets – three clean bowled - for 10 runs.
Skipper Gabriel led an excellent all round fielding display by Easton, taking two catches in the match that would have graced a one day international on Sky TV.
His second, coming quickly to him from a thick edge to point off Doug’s bowling, was taken around one inch off the ground as he dived forward.
Every single Easton batsman contributed to a respectable score of 97 from their 20 overs.
Arthur opened with his usual style and timing, scoring 12, but Gabriel’s brutality with three quality boundaries in a top score of 16, was the stand out performance with the willow.
The U9s remain unbeaten. |

2nds Lose following poor display |
May 19, 2009
|
|
Last Sat saw the 2nd's travel to Old Basing.
Easton won the toss and put them into bat. Inzy removed both openers in his first over and things looked positive.
Unfortunately Old Basing put on nearly 100 for the 3rd wicket. "Irish" bowled well down the hill with the wind (which was so strong it most of the game was played with no bails and even a metal sidescreen blew over).
Pierre was picked of bowlers with 2-22 from his 10 overs. Old Basing reached 167 - 6 from their 42 overs.
Easton lost early wickets with only Skipper Jenner making any score of note in the top 6. Nevs said he saw his only ball like a beach ball but looked like he was running on sand as failed to get to other end before being run out with a direct hit.
Adam Carrick and "Irish" batted well at the end but it saw Easton fall short on 126 all out.
Jonny Booth should have been another yard quicker afetr what he left in the pavillion.
I think a recall for Donkey is on the cards for this week to try and turn our luck around.
From your mails and calls this was a game the 2nd's could and should have won.
Quick Editors note - It was noted that Nevs met an old school mate playing for Old Basing - hasn't quashed the myth he never went to school though !!! |

Duncan, Cooper & Clarke Shine for U13s |
May 10, 2009
|
|
For the third week in a row Easton U13 were simply not good enough as a very talented Southampton Community team took home the spoils at a sun drenched Hoglands Park today. Despite the result Easton can take heart from a much improved performance in the field - James Duncan and Matthew Cooper particularly impressed on their joint debuts for the club. James took a wicket with his very first ball and demonstrated what a bright prospect he is by bowling with great pace and accuracy - all this on top of an athletic run out. Matthew Cooper took a good catch and bowled well throughout but it was his infectious enthusiasm which particularly impressed. Bradley Clarke took 2 well deserved wickets in his spell - proof that unerring line and length will bring results.

U9s tough it out to keep unbeaten record |
May 10, 2009
|
|
Easton & Martyr Worthy U9s secured a hard-fought A Division victory against a closely matched team from Compton & Chandlers Ford through sensible batting in the face of tight bowling.
Easton scored 70 for the loss of just one wicket, having pegged Compton back to 56 for the loss of four wickets. In the end it was the wickets that won it for our boys with Doug and Sam knocking down the timbers and Will taking a brilliant caught and bowled. All benefited from the scrooge-like economy of Arthur.
Easton\'s ground fielding gave nothing away with all contributing in this regard but Spencer, Henry and Gabriel standing out. Will also displayed a cool head to execute a run out.
Runs were hard to come by as Easton set about the chase to victory in the face of accurate Compton bowling. Critically though, only one wicket was lost as the home side came home in the end with a little to spare.
Tommy, who was man of the match, top-scored with 13, but in truth all contributed whether with runs or in blocking out decent bowling. |

Big day for Easton U9s |
May 2, 2009
|
|
Sunday May 3 is a big day for Easton & Martyr Worthy U9s and junior cricket in general, assuming the rain holds off!
We are for the first time fielding two U9 sides – 16 young players representing the club. We have an A Division match against Trojans 1 at home, starting 0930 and at the same time, in Southampton, we will be taking on Trojans 2.
Despite the Bank Holiday weekend depleting numbers, it is a testament to how far Easton has come as a club that we have a squad strong and deep enough to be able to select two good sides.
Of course none of this would be possible without volunteers to manage the sides and score. The club’s thanks in this regard must go to Adrian Lee, who is managing Easton away to Trojans, and to Hugo Worth and Tansy Jessop, who are scoring.
And this is not the only junior cricket under way this weekend, the U13s, managed by Damon Barker, will be in action Sunday away to Eastleigh and Otterbourne.
Support for all matches gratefully accepted! |

Junior Cricket News |
March 20, 2009
|
|
Hi Everyone
The new cricket season is just around the corner and preparations are in full flow.
Indoor Winter Training:
A large number of juniors have been preparing for the new season by participating in our indoor training sessions. These take place each Friday at Princes Mead’s excellent Sports Hall:
5:30 – 6:30 U9s
6:30 – 7:30 U11s
7:30 to 9:00 U13s and U15s
These organised sessions are a great way of shaking off the cobwebs and run until 10th April. Any players yet to attend would be made most welcome - £5 payable per session.
North Hampshire Indoor Cricket League:
For the first time the U11s and U13s have been competing at Dummer Cricket Centre in the North Hampshire Youth Cricket League throughout the Winter. As the campaign draws to a close I am delighted to say that the U11s are league champions in their division having won every game and the U13s sit mid-table in what for them has been a very competitive division. This is remarkable bearing in mind that until last October none of our players had had any experience playing this unforgiving form of the game. All those who have represented the club have been perfect ambassadors for Easton and can feel rightly proud of their achievements – lets hope the good progress continues in to the outdoor season and that all our teams enjoy success this summer.
Playing Shirts For Junior Members:
Once again D. Barker & Son are providing every Junior Member with a playing shirt for the forthcoming season (go to Club Information > Club Forms for order forms; one for your free shirt and the other for any other club clothing you may wish to purchase). Wilds Sports will be supplying the shirts - all will bear the D. Barker & Son logo and each shirt can also be personalised with a player’s initials. Bearing this in mind I cannot stress enough to parents the importance of ensuring that the correct size shirt is ordered. Personalised shirts cannot be exchanged. To assist with stress free ordering parents and juniors can call in to the shop in Jewry Street to try samples or, as a new initiative this year:
Paul and his team from Wilds Sports will be in attendances at Easton Village Hall on 1st April from 6:00 to 8:00 with a full range of clothing sampples and other cricket equipment.
In response to feedback from parents last Summer, the club has been discussing extending the range of club clothing with Wilds – you will see from the attached order form that an extensive range of training wear has been added – shorts and t-shirts were repeatedly requested. Wilds will be bringing samples of these additional items and other cricket related equipment with them on the 1st. All will be available for players to order/purchase – once again most items of clothing can be personalised in some way.
Winchester District Volunteers Day – 26th April
As you all know Junior Cricket at Easton only exists at all thanks to the tireless work of a small but dedicated band of individuals who gladly volunteer their time to plan and take coaching sessions, organise age group teams, umpire matches, score, administrate and generally keep the wheels turning throughout the year. As parents many of you take great pleasure in seeing your sons and daughters enjoy their cricket at Easton – had any of you thought of getting more involved? The club would warmly welcome any assistance from parents who would like to participate - playing experience is not necessary just a willingness to make a difference.
For those who would like to get more actively involved Winchester Warriors Junior Cricket (District) runs an excellent Volunteers Day (see attached). This year’s course takes place at Henry Beaufort School on Sunday 26th April – these have been well received by participants in the past.
It is not a requirement to attend this course if you would like to get more involved with Junior Cricket at Easton – more important for us is to have help from parents who are as enthusiastic as we are about driving forward Junior Cricket Easton. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss the matter further.

Champions! |
March 5, 2009
|
Easton U11s registered their 5th win on the bounce last night (4.3.09) as they defeated Overton at Dummer Cricket Centre. Champions at the first attempt, the win confirms Easton’s place at the top of ‘Bell U11 Division’ without conceding a single point – until last night that is. A spirited performance with the ball from Overton saw them take 5 Easton wickets to secure a precious bowling point and a swashbuckling last stand from their No6 batsman made for a tight finish that was a little too close for comfort.
Captain Dean Griffin once again won the toss and decided to bat first. Easton were off to a flyer as Dean and Matthew Perriam rattled along - both had to retire on 16 a piece as Joel Green added 1 more until he was run out. After 5 overs Easton were making good progress at 71-1. By now Overton’s bowling had become more disciplined and the scoring rate slowed. Nevertheless, Ethan Brackstone added 15 and Daniel Phillips 4. A late flurry of wickets brought Dean and Matthew back to the crease to accompany Jonty Sharpe. A late attempted surge to achieve a batting point (for 120 runs scored batting first) saw Dean hole out for 19 and Matthew departed for a creditable 25 as Easton posted a score of 108.
Overton started cautiously in their reply – opener Kerr was run out in the first over. Kenneely edged to Daniel for 5 and Freemantle was clean bowled as Matthew took two wickets in one over for 2 runs. Joel Green bowled superbly in his spell (3-1-1-13) taking a wicket in his first over to send Overton reeling on 34-4 in the 6th over. Jonty took the 5th Overton wicket in the 9th over (74-5) and the writing was on the wall. Sadly at this juncture Easton lost the plot. Rather than play as a team and play to their strengths Easton were guilty of both indiscipline and of showing an unhealthy disregard for their opponents as Overton’s No6 Robbie Dennison put on a bravura display scoring 21 runs in the final overs. Easton simply leaked runs at every twist and turn as the extras column kept getting bigger and bigger. In the end Overton fell short by 10 runs – they deserve enormous credit for the way they kept their heads as Easton collectively lost theirs.
So, with 20 points amassed over 5 matches Easton have won their first indoor title – not bad for a group of players who had never played this format 7 months and 5 matches ago. All have improved as players and we all hope that the team can take this form in to the summer season. All are to be congratulated for the way they have embraced this form of the game and for the enthusiasm they have shown. Lessons to be learnt? Respect the opposition at all times – underestimate them at your peril; be competitive by all means but behave with humility. Lastly set the ultimate example – demonstrate to others how to win and to win well for each other and for the love of the game.

Easton U13s Demolish Old Basing Hawks |
February 26, 2009
|
|
Easton U13s demolished 2nd placed Old Basing Hawks last night (25.2.09) by 4 wickets taking all 5 available points in the process. Despite a strong start by the Hawks, Easton fought hard taking all 6 wickets in overs 6 to 9 leaving a target of 82 to win. Alex Barker top scored with 17 as Easton crossed the line in the 7th over to win at a canter.
Captain Calum Rigden won the toss and put Old Basing Hawks in to bat – openers Luke Goddard and Ryan Murray wasted no time in blazing to 62-0 by the end of the 5th over. Dean Griffin struck first to dismiss Murray for 15 and in the next over Alex Barker bowled Goddard and with the last ball of his spell ran out Jamie Hope. Hawks were rocked back on 70-3 and collapsed completely losing all 6 wickets for just 19 runs as Dean bowled Matt Daniels. Ben Smith (on his debut in this format of the game) stepped up next and clean bowled Nathan Maggs with his first delivery and accounted for Tom Mason off the next ball as Alex Barker took the catch to wrap up the Old Basing innings as they posted 81. Throughout Matthew Perriam bowled with great economy and Alex Amies kept wicket very tidily.
Calum and Alex Barker set about chasing down the target - made all the easier by some in-disciplined bowling from the Hawks bowlers. Alex hit two 6s on his way to 17, Calum scored 4, Dean scored 3 and Ben 1 as Easton romped home with 5 overs to spare.
This was a terrific all round team performance. Easton remained positive when Hawks were blazing away and never lost their focus – they took their chances as Hawks threw away a their good start and punished the North Hants side as they batted recklessly in the later stages. With a maximum 5 points in the bag Easton now sit respectably in mid table of Collingwood U13 Division with two matches to play.

U11s Champions As They Win League In Last Over Nail Biter |
February 13, 2009
|
|
With three balls to spare, Easton pulled off a dramatic victory against Odiham last night (12.2.09) to record their fourth win on the bounce and cement their place at the top of the table and thus winning the NHYCL Bell Division at their first attempt. Having given away a record number of extras in the first innings, Easton fought back and batted with terrific brio to chase down 108 to win in dramatic style.
Once again Easton won the toss and skipper Dean Griffin elected to bowl first. However that was pretty much all the team won as they struggled to bowl with much discipline and Odiham began to rattle up a good score despite hardly getting bat on ball! Order was restored as Matthew Perriam took 2-14 in his 3 overs and Jonty Sharpe fought back from a difficult first over to dismiss Michael with a ball that turned dramatically off the astro surface. Thanks to their opposition’s generosity Odiham posted 107-3 in their 12 overs leaving a mountain for Easton’s batsmen to climb.
Dean Griffin and Matthew Perriam set about the task with all guns blazing until a mix-up going for the extra run resulted in Matthew being run out for 5. Dean was joined by Ethan Brackstone and together they crashed on – both retiring on 15. Daniel Phillips was bowled by a fullish delivery for 0. Rocked back but still very much in the hunt Easton kept up the assault as James Barker kept his head and played every ball good and straight. By the 10th over the target was in sight and the call went up to ‘have a yahoo’; James and Jonty duly obliged. Odiham had a nightmare penultimate over conceding 12 runs leaving 3 to win off the final over – a deft dab to backward point from Jonty and a generous wide off the 3rd ball of the final over secured the win and the league for Easton.
It is to the team’s immense credit that they came back from an abject 1st innings performance to overcome Odiham with a swagger. Well led once again by Dean Griffin the team has performed well throughout this indoor campaign. Different line-ups have embraced this format of the game and made it their own and Easton can be very proud of what they have achieved in this their first season playing league cricket indoors. Coaches and parents alike can also feel nothing but pride for the way the team have performed since last September – many would undoubtedly prefer to keep their fingernails though!

Easton U11s Beat Eversley To Go 6 Points Clear At The Top of The Table |
February 4, 2009
|
|
Easton U11s extended their lead at the top of the NHCDA Junior Indoor League Bell Division by three points as they defeated rivals Eversley by 4 wickets in a classic ‘6 pointer’ encounter at Dummer last Tuesday 3.2.09.
Winning the toss (for the third match in a row) skipper Dean Griffin elected to bowl first. As they have in their two previous matches Easton bowled with great discipline initially; William was run out for 1 in the first over by Matthew Perriam off the bowling of Dean. Brendan was caught by wicket keeper Daniel Phillips for 8 off the bowling of Matthew who was the bowler as Jonty ran out James for 7. Daniel ran out Jordan in the next over off the bowling of Joel Green as Eversley were left reeling at 34-4 by the end of the fifth over. Throughout, the North Hants team took risks with their running between the wickets and several more run out chances went begging as the Eversley innings continued. Sadly Easton could not snaffle a 5th to secure a bowling point as Eversley finished their 12 overs having amassed a score of 90-4.
Dean and Joel opened for Easton putting on 27 for the first wicket (Dean retiring on 17) as Joel was given out LBW. By the halfway stage Easton were 60-2 (Daniel had been bowled by Jack for 1) and were well ahead of the rate. Matthew (not out 8) and James Barker (4) batted positively – James was bowled by the penultimate ball of the innings and the winning runs (2 byes) off the next ball saw Easton over the line as they post 92-3 to win the match.
Once again this was an accomplished and well deserved win against a very good team. Easton now lead the table with 13 points – 6 ahead of 2nd placed Eversley with two matches to play against Odiham and Overton (5th & 6th place respectively). Easton are now tantalisingly close to winning the league in their very first season!

End of Season Square Repairs |
September 15, 2008
|
The end of season repairs to the square were completed on Saturday. The essential repairs have been completed in good time, despite the damp conditions. Several deep scarifications and a deep solid tining, followed by a 40kgs of quality grass seed and 1 tonne of Surrey loam! A little warm sunshine and a drop of rain in the next couple of weeks should ensure the seed gets firmly established before the colder weather and frosts arrive.
Thanks to all the helping hands that gave up thier Saturday to help! |

Those were the days!! |
September 15, 2008
|
|
Following the Saturday 2nd XI's record setting dismal of Sherfield-on-London for 32, Nigel Greenwood recalls the 2nd XI's exploits at Fair Oak in 1985.
"Further to our record breaking dismissal of Sherfield on Loddon for a mere 32 on August 23rd it is worth recalling the previous record breaking occasion. On June 8th 1985, Easton 2nd XI travelled to Fair Oak and dismissed their hosts for 34. The Easton line-up that day comprised Kevin Burrows, Nigel Greenwood, Duncan Lee, Adrian Vokes, Trevor Knaggs, Tosh Whitear, Dave Cooper, Martyn Whitear, Dave Purse, Steve Green and Richard "Heavy" Tate. Easton had earlier smashed their way to a score of 201-9 from their allotted 40 overs, the first time that the 2nd XI had ever reached that landmark. Top scorer was Dave Purse with 66 not out - his only ever league half-century. Purse hit 5 sixes and was well supported by 14 year old Martyn Whitear (21) and 12 year old Steve Green (12). At the start of the innings 15 year old Nigel Greenwood hit 45 and so narrowly failed to become the youngest player to reach a league 50 (eventually achieved by the Green brothers). 17 year old Adrian Vokes continued the youthful prominence, taking 6 wickets, as Fair Oak collapsed to 12-8! Victory - by a massive 167 runs - came just as the rains began. That season Easton would go on to win the Winchester Wiltshier League with a 100% record." |

2009 Junior Membership Renewals |
August 26, 2008
|
As the 2008 season comes to an end the junior committee are busily planning the winter coaching programme and summer 2009!
With numbers growing it is eveident that the club could well have fielded A & B sides in the under 9 and under 11 age groups.
In order to assist our planning and decide on team entries to the Winchester Warriors leagues it is vitally important that we establish our playing numbers for next season as quickly as possible.
The club would therefore like to invite parents to complete and return membership renewals for next season by Friday 3rd October 2008.(No upfront payment required.Post dated cheques to accompany returns as per last year - See forms).
I am pleased to confirm that the subscriptions will be held at £80 (or £144 for a family membership), which will again include either a shirt or slipover in club colours and logo.
Your help and cooperation in returning the forms by the 3rd of October is greatly appreciated, this will assist the club in planning effectively for the 2009 season.

Premier League Status all but secured |
August 17, 2008
|
|
Easton & Martyr have all but secured their SEPL Premier League status following their fourth successive win and thier fifth in six games. Mathematically 7 points are still required from the remaining two fixtures to ensure safety. The win pushed Easton & Martyr Worthy up four places to 10th in the table with realistic hopes off securing a halfway finish, which would be a satisfactory end to the season following losses in the opening eight fixtures!
